Vicodin, a derivative of opium, is a pain killer which is generally used to treat moderate to severe pain. It contains a combination of acetaminophen and hydrocodone that taken together are effective in helping to relieve pain. Hydrocodone belongs to the group of drugs that are known as narcotic pain relievers – and the presence of the acetaminophen helps to increase the effects of the hydrocodone.
