Solodyn is brand name drug, and an oral tetracycline class antibiotic medication approved for the treatment of pus-filled pimples or acne, red bumps and other types of acne. Solodyn is one dose per a day extended release formula medication that works by slowly releasing small amount of drugs to the system over time. Minocyline is prescribed for those 12 years or old. This medication comes in tablet forms and is administered orally. (Use only as directed by your doctor.) Though Solodyn comes in 3 dosage strengths, the most popular and mostly recommended dose is one tablet per a day for 12 days regimen.

Solodyn is not recommended for pregnant women or those who are breast feeding, as it may be very harmful to the unborn or new baby. Because this drug can easily pass through the breast milk it could severely effect tooth and bone development of a new born. Women who are taking birth control pills should not take this medication as it tends to render birth control pills ineffective. Couples who are trying to conceive also should not take this Solodyn For Acne. (This medication is rated FDA pregnancy category D.)

As an antibiotic, Solodyn oral is also approved for other uses such as bacterial infections treatments. It does not however, work for the treatment of viral infections, or common cold.
