Pain Relievers - Eliminating Pain with Pain Relievers
"No pain, no gain." Do you believe in this saying? Well, there are many things that can be obtained without so much pain. In any case, the pain we will talk about in this article is physical pain. An example of this pain is the feeling that can be acquired by for example placing one's hand over a burning stove, not the feeling you experience whenever your crush (or lover) say something against you. Going back to our main concern, you may ask a question: why do we feel pain? It is much better if we can control pain in a way that whenever we feel pain, we just think of pain relievers and puff, no more pain. Maybe, that is life; difficult to understand!
Actually, it is quite easy to understand why there is a need to feel pain. Pain can be thought of as an early warning system. Feeling pain means that something is wrong with that body part so that you will immediately go to a doctor to see what is going on. Of course, the first step you might take is to ask your parents or friends for some pain relievers. These are medicines that can lessen or to some extent can eliminate the feeling of pain. How do they work? Common pain relievers that can be bought over-the-counter are ibuprofen and acetaminophen. When taken, these medications do not go directly into the affected area and fight pain per se. What these medicines do is that they inhibit the secretion of the chemical prostaglandin by the cells. This chemical is normally released by the cells whenever they are injured or not in a good health status. Special nerve endings of our body then sense this chemical and pass on the message to the brain. The brain will then interpret the pain, and thus, you will feel it. When the cells cannot produce prostaglandin anymore, the special nerves won't sense any signal related to pain, and thus, no "pain signal" will reach the brain. That is the "magic" behind pain relievers!
Pain relievers are handy most of the time, but too much use of these can also be fatal. So, be careful in using these medications for they might bring more pain than what you are currently suffering.
