Is Viagra Safe for Women?
It appears that the jury is still out on whether or not Viagra is safe for women. Sone online articles we’ve read say that Viagra isn’t safe for some men so why should it be safe for women?
Like any prescription medicine, Viagra may or may not affect the people who take it. As you are aware, some medications work for some while others produce mild to severe side effects.
The current literature seems to point to the fact that Viagra is particularly effective for women who are on anti-depressants. Reports and studies suggest that while Viagra may be safe for women, it is not clear whether they can actually solve women’s sexual problems.
Viagra may also make women more sexually responsive, especially those who have difficulty achieving orgasm. It can also enhance a women’s desire or ability to get aroused during stimulation but remember that this is not necessarily true for ALL women who take Viagra.
Another opinion was offered by CNN’s health web site in July 2008. The news article said that based on research, 98 pre-menopausal women were given some Viagra and that it helped them achieve orgasm, but the conclusion was that it will not help them with their arousal or desire.
Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company that created and marketed Viagra said that it stopped its research on Viagra for women in 2004. Although researchers said that Viagra is safe for women, the “results were inconclusive.”
Does Viagra Work?
This is a very personal question. Some women will say Viagra works, and still others will say it doesn’t. The reason for this is that Viagra’s effectiveness for women will depend on whether or not they are taking depression medication. As mentioned, it was observed that those women on antidepressants seem to report positive results for Viagra.
It will also depend on women’s previous sexual experiences, their attitudes toward sex and their happiness (or frustration) with their partner.
Side effects such as reddening of the skin, headaches and indigestion were reported by some women taking Viagra.
On March 27, 2008, Lindsay Lyon wrote that Viagra just celebrated its 10th year. It has won the hearts of men because their sex lives improved considerably when they started taking Viagra. Viagra for women, however, has shown less stellar results. Note that Viagra immediately solves the lack of a sex drive in men, but for women, the issue goes beyond the physical aspct of arousal. The very essence of a woman is such that her life is influenced by hormonal factors as well as interpersonal factors. Viagra for women, therefore, remains a debatable issue.
