Cyclobenzaprine is a Muscle Relaxant and dosage strengths are in the form of Cyclobenzaprine 10mg and Cyclobenzaprine 5mg. Following whiplash or other injuries in which painful muscle spasms are present Cyclobenzaprine may be required. This muscle relaxant ultimately results in the decrease firing of alpha motor neurons. The reason this is important is that sometimes in cases of acute injury the firing of alpha motor neurons can increase the level of pain experienced by the patient.
Cyclobenzaprine 10mg (sometimes known as Flexeril, Amrix and Fexmid) is a generic equivalent product that is closely related to certain types of antidepressants. This drug should not be used when the patient is using MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors).
Cyclobenzaprine side effects include depression, drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, blurred vision, respiratory depression and agitation. When used for extended periods patients have experienced damage to their vision. Dry mouth and frequent urination is also reported among some users. Heart palpitations have also been reported.
