Benicar HCT (Hydrochlorothiazide; Olmesartan) a Medical Guide to Benicar HCT
Benicar HCT (Hydrochlorothiazide; Olmesartan) this is a combination of diuretic. This medication is prescribed for the gradual treatment of patients who have High Blood Pressure levels. They are not exclusive for adult's usage but for children at least eight years of age. There are two different generic names in this medicine but both are working together for the treatment of Hypertension namely the Olmesartan Medoxomil and hydrochlorothiazide.

- No other known uses for this medication except for Hypertension.
Benicia HCT Side Effects:
- Increase in the levels of Uric Acid
- Vomiting
- Hypoglycemia in Diabetic patients
- Hypomagnesaemia - increase in the levels of Magnesium in the body
- Increase cholesterol levels
- Vertigo
- Chest Pains
- Hematuria - blood in the urine
- Dark urine
- Yellowing of the eye or skin
- Muscle cramps
- Blistering or redness
- Persistent and dry cough
- Persistent gout pain
- Lightheadedness
Withdrawals:
This medication might cause Weight Gain so it also should be taken wisely and with a duly-prescribed certificate from the Physician. Talk to your doctor before you stop using this medication.
Dosage of Benicar HCT:
- 20mg/12.5mg. Each tablet contains 20mg of olmesartan medoxomil and 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide.
- 40mg/12.5mg. Each tablet contains 40mg of olmesartan medoxomil and 12.5mg of hydrochlorothiazide.
- 40mg/25mg. Each tablet contains 40mg of olmesartan medoxomil with 25mg of hydrochlorothiazide.
What to avoid if you are taking Benicar HCT:
- Patients who have Kidney disease are not advised to take this kind of medication
- Patients who are sensitive to Sulfonamide-derived medications should stay away from this medication
- Thiazide Diuretics should be discontinued prior to use of this particular medication
- People who are on special low salt diet should not take this medication
- Patients with immune system disorders like lupus should not take this drug
- Patients with liver disease should also avoid using this drug.
As with most prescription drugs, women who are pregnant or plan to become pregnant should not use this drug, and must speak with their doctor if they decide to use this drug. This drug can be harmful to an unborn baby, and could cause serious injury or death to an unborn baby during second or third trimesters.
Benicar HCT is FDA pregnancy category D rated. Tell your doctor should you become pregnant while using this medicine. It is not known whether this drug will pass into breast milk, so talk to your doctor if you're breast feeding while on this medication.
It would be best to discuss dosage, side effects and other concerns with your Physician most especially for patients who have renal difficulties. Talking and staying current with your doctor concerning any side effects or symptoms is always advisable.
