Avodart (dutasteride) a prescription drug intended to ease benign prostatic hyperplasia the condition that causes enlarged prostate. Dutasteride works by improving urinary flow which eases the need to urinate constantly. The treatment results to the shrinking of the prostate which may also reduce the chance of having prostate surgery.

- Depression
Warnings:
- Men should not donate blood to women who are expecting a child since it will cause fetal defects.
- Skin contact is prohibited for men taking this medication. Itll immediately be absorbed by the skin.
- Although there are no known instances of drug dependency or overdose with this kind of medication, the only situation that may happen after discontinuation is the further enlargement of the prostrate as well as the onslaught of hair loss
- Do not crush, chew or open the capsule.
- Must be swallowed whole, and with full glass of water
- Do not expose to the skin, may irritate your lips, mouth or throat
- Pregnant women or child should not touch or come in contact with this drug
- Likely to cause birth defects.
Dosage of Avodart:
- 0.5mg taken 1x a day
- Should be swallowed as a whole gel capsule form and must not be crushed or opened to be mixed with food
What to avoid if you're taking Avodart:
- Drugs containing Finasteride since it will lead to drug overdose. It contains the same dosage of 0.5mg.
- Tuberculosis drugs like isoniazid
- Antifungal medicine like itraconazole
- Conivaptan (vaprisol)
- Blood pressure drug like diltazem
- Nefazodone antidepressant medication
- Clarithromycin (biaxin) antibiotic
- Imatinib (gleevec)
- There are more drugs and some generic name drugs not listed above.
By not restricting water intake to as much as four glasses a day, this condition regarding the difficulty to pass urine would be avoided. It will give strain to the prostate and total well being of the patient.
